Leukemia is a type of cancer in which bone marrow, which is responsible for making white blood cells, produces the white blood cells that are abnormal. These abnormal white blood cells do not die in the timely manner that they should. Instead they stay in the blood and cause crowding in the blood. This, in turn, makes it difficult for the normal blood cells to function properly.
For Leukemia please answer the following questions:
What are the causes of Leukemia?
What are the symptoms of Leukemia?
What are treatment options for Leukemia?
Is Leukemia curable?
Is there a nationality, race or gender that this disease tends to affect more than others?
Are there any other interesting facts about this disease? (i.e. leading cause of death in women under 50, etc.)
In addition, please be sure you are answering any additional questions that anyone may be asking.
To the other groups asking questions... remember, as we discussed in class, we do not want to make these questions impossible for the group to answer. Instead we want the questions to be designed in such a way that we will learn the important facts about the diseases which we are discussing over the next few weeks.
