Cirrhosis of the Liver

Cirrhosis of the Liver is a disease where normal, healthy liver cells are replaced by scar tissue. This scar tissue is generally formed by alcohol consumption, but it can also be caused by chemicals, viruses and toxic metals.

For Cirrhosis of the Liver please answer the following questions:

What are the causes of Cirrhosis of the Liver?
What are the symptoms of Cirrhosis of the Liver?
What are treatment options for Cirrhosis of the Liver?
Is Cirrhosis of the Liver curable?
Is there a nationality, race or gender that this disease tends to affect more than others?
Are there any other interesting facts about this disease? (i.e. leading cause of death in women under 50, etc.)

In addition, please be sure you are answering any additional questions that anyone may be asking.

To the other groups asking questions... remember, as we discussed in class, we do not want to make these questions impossible for the group to answer. Instead we want the questions to be designed in such a way that we will learn the important facts about the diseases which we are discussing over the next few weeks.
