Cardiomyopathy

Cardiomyopathy is a heart disease where the heart muscle experiences enlargement. In other words the cells in the muscle replicate too fast or grow to large. This disease can cause heart failure or blockage of the arteries to pump blood out of the heart. There are three types of cardiomyopathy - dilated, hypertropic and restrictive, all three affect your heart muscle.

For Cardiomyopathy please answer the following questions:

What are the differences in the three types of Cardiomyopathy?
What are the causes of Cardiomyopathy?
What are the symptoms of Cardiomyopathy?
What are treatment options for Cariomyopathy? Are they different for the different types?
Is there a nationality, race or gender that this disease tends to affect more than others?
Are there any other interesting facts about this disease? (i.e. leading cause of death in women under 50, etc.)

In addition, please be sure you are answering any additional questions that anyone may be asking.

To the other groups asking questions... remember, as we discussed in class, we do not want to make these questions impossible for the group to answer. Instead we want the questions to be designed in such a way that we will learn the important facts about the diseases which we are discussing over the next few weeks.
